flywheel torque?? any way too check timing???

flywheel torque?? any way too check timing???
I bought a 72 kitty cat,fired right up when purchased.Now it doesn't want too run.I pulled the carb apart,clean,have issue with the o rings on the tube.compression is strong,has spark.muffler is clean.won't even fire with carb cleaner.I can tell that someone has been in it at 1 time.I'm going to check point's and Timing.any tricks??what do I torque the flywheel nut too??Thanks

I got it torn apart.points look ok,gap seems right.
there is about 6 marks on the case and plate,some lines, some punch dot's.Someone has been in here.the 2 large outer bolts are in the center of there adjustment.what I think looks like a factory mark is about parrallel with the engine.is this right???
Is there any tips on checking the points dwell too verify the gap???
I was thinking of pulling the plug and putting a cordless drill on the crank/flywheel bolt and let it turn,My meters only go too 3 cyl on dwell setting.Any tricks???Thanks
