Just bought a 98, have a question about maintenance

Just bought a very nice 98 KC. It starts and runs awesome and seems to have great power, but...

When the throttle is opened, it takes a lot of throttle to move and is very jerky and knocks my son off the back...or if he hangs on and lets off the throttle, he flies forward. The govenor is set at full power...When I lift up the rear of the sled, once moving, runs and accepts throttle just fine...but is jerky normal...it's very jerky...

I don't know if the sled was ever serviced. Is the track too tight? Is something else too tight?

I ordered a service manual last week but it has not come in yet...

Help!

Jerky

Sounds like the track might be too tight acting like a brake. It should have a little slack and you should be able to turn it pretty easy with your finger in the window.
