I have a1985 Kitty Cat and I'm replacing the primary coil. I removed the flywheel and the old coil. I soldered the harness onto the coil on the same end as the old one. I put the motor back togehter and there is no spark. I looked at the old coil and see it has a ring piece soldered to the other end wire of the coil. Then the ring is placed so the mounting screw holds it in place. I think this is a step I missed. Any help on this is appreciated

That ring grounds the coils windings, it needs to be connected. It does not have to ground at that point but its does need to be grounded.
