Tork Spec's on 73 Kitty Cat

Post by Puma »

Need Help!
What is the ft. lb. spec's for tightening the cylinder head nuts for the Kawasaki Motor?
Can I use the spec's I down loaded for the 1990 Kitty Cat off this site?
I know the 1990 is a different engine but are the in the ball park?

Thank you,
J. Robison

Torq specs

Post by Jonn »

Yes, you may use the same torq specs. They are slightly different, but close. The one thing I'd suggest is to make several smaller increases of torq rather than one or a couple big ones. The paper gasket material on the older head gaskets are weaker and if there is a slight torq difference it can blow out the head gasket. (Example: Instead of torquing each head nut directly to 6-9 ft-lbs, do each head nut to 4lbs, then 7lbs, then 9lbs, or whatever you use as your maximum torq.) I hope this helps.

Thanks Jonn,
Funny I ordered a complete gasket set and new updated Kawasaki carb from you last week. Now I won't ruin the new head gaskets.
Thanks again for your help.
