painting 72 kitty cat cowl

Has anyone had any luck painting the black plastic hood on a 72 kitty? If so how did you prepare the surface? Can I treat it like fibre glass? I can paint but I have never painted anything plastic. Can I use automotive paint? Thanks for reading this.

i just painted my daughters kitty cat. i sanded the hood with 220 wet or dry sandpaper. then i used primer and then painted the hood. make sure the paint is for plastic only
