Oversized Piston- spec needed

Post by 78kitty »

I am rebuilding my sons 78 with suzuki motor and machine shop is installing oversized piston and machining- does anyone know what the piston to wall clearance should be? No local cat dealers here for them to call and get spec from.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for the clearance spec- unfortunately the machine shop had honed to .003 and then called to ask what it should be- how is this going to affect the overall picture? What are long term affects of this and should I reassemble the engine or buy a new jug?

Any help/advise is greatly appreciated.

.003 is ok....if the motor is still in stock form(gov connected) things will be fine........for racing you would want it tighter

I removed the governor and put a 2.0 needle in the carb. Also went to .040 piston and rings. No other mods to the motor. Just dont want to reassemble and blow it up- sounds like I need to find a nice way to tell the machine shop they overbored and now its going to cost them a new jug.

Thanks again- great to have so much knowledge available- I cant find such about my zrt 600.

Dont think I do- I actually found a local guy who used to rebuild these and he told me that the .003 would be ok as long as I am not racing. SO I am taking the chance and I reaseembled it this afternoon- it runs great once its warmed up when cold I have to give it gas or it stalls. Hauled me across the yard with no problems.
Thanks kidsperformance for your help and advice - if you have any thoughts about the stalling when cold I would be happy to hear them.
