Just got a Kitty

Post by Uglystick »

Hello All,

I just picked up an old Kitty Cat. It runns pretty good and is in overall good shape. I need a few things for it. It has the common fuel leak from the pet cock and the carb deffinatly needs rebuilding. I will also have to replace the coil and spark plug wire as there is a piece of romex cable there now.

I was wondering if anyone could tell me what year it is so I can start ordering parts and getting some more specific instructions.

I plan to completly rebuild the thing and get it in top shape for next year. My oldest is going to be 3 this March so I figure MAYBE she can use it a little this year and then I have the whole spring summet and fall to get it rebuilt.

The serial number on the sled is KC2 11783

The motoer is a Kawasaki and the number is T5AO6OSI A

Thanks any advice is greatly appreciated.

KC2 = 1972 I bet it also needs crank seals, and not just a carburetor rebuild

Forgive my ignorance. Crank seals are the seals on the head of the engine??

I just got back in nfrom the garage and went through the sled.

So far I need

1 a new kill switch

2 fix the petcock leak

3 new spark plug wire

4 check engine compression (does anyone know what it should be)

5 carb rebulid, or at least a good cleaning

Thanks

crankshaft seals crank seals for short are on each side of the engine. one is under the recoil and the other is under the gear reduction box. 9 out of 10 times the older kitty's with kawasaki motors that don't idle or run very well.are not carb issues, but bad crank seals.

UPDATE

I tore down the sled today. I took off the carb and cleaned the thing.

I took out the piece of romex wire that the spark plug wire was patched with and soldered in a piece of spark plug wire and covered it with heat shrink tubing.

I put it back together and the sled runns much better. I still plan to replace the crank seals.

SO I still need

a new kill switch

the crank seals

and possibly a deep snow kit and maybe some studs

BTW is there any "gearbox" oil in these sleds?? I am not familiar with these motors at all. I can't see a drain plug.

Thanks Again
