lack of air

i have a 73 kitty cat that only runs with the air box off.when you put it back on it will only idle.take it off again an dit runs great .any suggestions

The air box is part of the tuning of a 2-cycle just like the exhaust/expansion pipe. Are there any mods to the engine? Make sure the air box is open, clean, assembled correctly, and no one put a piece of foam in it to act like a filter.

the motor is stock.there is no foam in air cleaner everythign is the way it should be with the air cleaner any other suggestions.

well if it runs great leave it off there aint much dust floating around in the snow, its not a filter anyway
