Which way does the arrow on piston go?

this is on a 7/77 kitty cat. I put the arrow towards the exhaust side but when I line up the rings the pins are toward the exhaust which I thought they needed to be towards the carb side.

Thanks for the help in advance.

towards the exhaust and make sure the ring ends are
around the locating pin on the piston!!!
