Kitty Cat Steering

Post by Gibby »

The steering on our 1980 Kitty Cat is locked and cannot be turned. I sprayed WD-40 on all the mechanism and still cannot turn the skis. Any suggestions on correctly fixing this problem?

One or both spindles might be frozen with rust. Remove the plates on each spindle and see if the skis will turn. That should pin point it to a spindle or the steering shaft. There is not too many places to can cause problems on the KC steering.

Yeah, definitely take the spindles out. They come out quite easy, as said above remove the steering plates and the spindles should drop down. There are some plastic bushings in there that may need to be replaced or at least cleaned and greased. The only other place I could imagine it binding is where the strap bolts to the frame to hold the handlebars in position. Loosen that up and check as well.
