So I'm making my own light kit for my kitty. It has the coil and wire ready to go, but no lights. I dont want to buy one 'cause I donlt like where the factory headlight goes. Anyway, I have not done the headlight yet, but I did mount and connect a tail light. But when I rev the engine the bulb burns out.
Can somene tell me if the factory light kit has a voltage regulator? I can just get a generic one wire regulator and put that in and hopefuly that will fix the problem, or maybe once I add the head light it will add enough draw that the bulbs wont blow.
Any one with similar experience or advice?
Thanks.

your going to need the regulator
you will need the regulator they only cost about 10 -12 bucks i believe.
if you hook up the headlight its just going to smoke that too
the coil discharges ac voltage so the faster it spins the more you get the regulator makes sure it doesnt put out more than 13v eeven wide open
without the regulaor it can hit almost 24 v on some depending on the coil
