stalling problem

I have a 72 Kitty that keeps stalling after awile of running.
Had the carb all apart and nothing. I think I found the problem but need an answer. The fuel cap was replaced with a differnt one. Can anyonr tell me if the factory one was vented? Maybe a hole in it? The cap I have is solid do I think it causes a vaccum and stop the fuell flow.
Please let me know

It should be vented. Try to drill a hole in it or find a different cap.
