I'd like to take this post a step further. Can someone provide the exact procedure to check compression on a Kitty Cat along with the range of values that you can consider normal? For example, engine cold or engine warm? Thanks!

1. Buy a compression tester
2. Remove the spark plug
3. Thread the compression tester fitting into the plug hole on the cylinder
4. Pull the rope/cord until the pressure reading is maxed-out
5. Make note of your pressure.

Test can be performed cold, but if the engine runs, you can also test with it warm, just take care not to burn your hands. I can find the compression ratio in the service manual but no actual values for the compression. As a rule of thumb less than 100 is low and more than 100 is acceptable.

Incidentally, the compression ratio in the manual is 6.7:1, so theoretically you would multiply 6.7 x 19 to get 127.3psi.
