Hood Hinge Repair

Hello,
I am looking for some information on adding the piano hinges on a kitty hood that has the tabs broken off.
I've read about people riveting piano hinges to the hood and belly pan, but I can't figure out in my mind how to do it.
Can someone please explain it to me? Pictures of a hood done would be a bonus!
